Speaking on the Chinese social network, Weibo, Huawei Senior Vice President Yu Chengdong confirmed that Huawei is working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 competitor. The phone which has been rumored for a while is expected to ship with an absolutely massive 6.1 inch full HD display. The phone has been rumored to be called the Ascend Mate.

Third quarter of the year is usually really bad for mobile phone manufacturers as there are no huge celebrations where people buy devices and it is also the time where new devices are unveiled which will be launched during Christmas. So people tend to wait for Christmas time where all the mobile manufacturers try to bring in their best devices. Gartner’s research shows that mobile phone sales has gone down 3% compared to last year but in the same research smaprtphone sales has gone up 47%.

Jolla Mobile, the Finnish mobile startup, has announced that it will be showing off its MeeGo based smartphone operating system at the Slush startup conference in Helsinki. The conference is slated to take place from 21-22 November. The operating system has been codenamed Sailfish and details regarding the SDK for the OS will be rolled out around the same time.

At the Nokia Strategy Summit in Chennai today , I had the chance to check out the Nokia Asha 311 which was announced only yesterday along with the Nokia Asha 305 and 306. Entry level phones are generally slow and boring but you would be surprised at what the 311 packs. In fact , it’s the sexiest entry level Nokia phone I have played with in quite some time. While Nokia call the latest Asha phones as Asha Smartphones , they are still pretty much feature phones. The phone is insanely fast for its segment and may be even faster than some Symbian phones and entry level Android phones as it packs a 1GHz processor. Check out the photos of the Asha 311

When I was checking out some news sites , I noticed an unusual thank you banner and the Samsung logo and decided to check it out. It took me to a landing page which is a thank you page for Samsung mobile users. Samsung says that it is currently the No.1 Smartphone brand in India according to the promo. It is quoting a GfK nielsen India Retail Store Audit Report for mobile phones in 50,000+population towns in November 2011. Samsung claims to have a market share of 37.9% in Smartphones in that month for that particular segment.

Recently we were invited for a HUAWEI Blogger’s Meet in Mumbai and were shown 3 recently launched HUAWEI Android devices. Here are the hands-on photos of IDEOS X3.
HUAWEI IDEOS X3 is another entry level 3G Android Gingerbread device launched in India for Rs. 9990/- (MOP). It has 3.2” TFT LCD HVGA display and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 SOC (System on Chip) running at 600MHz. IDEOS X3 has a 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. This device is actually unique as even it is a entry level Android smartphone, X3 has a premium design with curved body and nice soft touch matt plastic covering all back side of the device. Overall the device feels quite solid in hand. The X3 has VGA FFC (Front Facing Camera) for Internet Video Calls. The display is quite bright and due to its size (3.2”) and HVGA resolution it was quite sharp for our eyes. The X3 has 3.2MP Fixed Focus main camera without LED Flash.
