Sony SmartWatch 2 launched in India for Rs. 14990

Sony has launched the SmartWatch 2 (SW2), successor of the first SmartWatch in India. The SmartWatch 2 was announced at the Mobile Asia Expo back in June and comes with a 1.6-inch (220 x 176 pixels) Transflective LCD display and is made  of aluminium (body) with wristband made of silicon or stainless steel. It has Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC to connect to Android smartphones running on Android 4.0 (ICS) and later. It weighs 122.5 grams and has IP57 ratings for water resistance. Sony was one of the first companies to announce the smart watch and it has not been a very successful journey for them. At IFA 2013 in Berlin, when Samsung announced their first smartwatch – Galaxy Gear, Sony had already announced the second iteration of their Smartwatch – Smartwatch 2. Sony unveils the SmartWatch 2 for Android with one touch NFC

Smartwatches have always been a niche at best. Recently spurred into prominence by crowd funded hardware innovators like Pebble, amidst rumours of Apple being interested in a similar device, the smart watch is suddenly cool again, and Sony wants in on the market enthusiasm. While they pioneered a bluetooth watch since 2007, Sony has unveiled its latest iteration of the same – the Sony SmartWatch 2. Made for Android devices running on v4.0 ICS or later, the watch sports NFC one touch pairing and promises several utilitarian functionality to grace your wrist. Sony SmartWatch successor to be announced at Mobile Asia Expo next week?

Tweets from the official Sony Xperia hints at the successor of the Sony SmartWatch that is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 in Shanghai next week. Sony unveiled the first SmartWatch back in January 2012 with a 1.3” (128×128 pixels) OLED touch display that can wirelessly and discreetly access calls, messages and applications.
