Video: Unboxing of the Nokia C7

I received a brand new Nokia C7 today (huge thanks to Nokia Austria), in the fantastic looking black charcoal colour. I got struck by the awesome feel again, the whole device is very nicely built and will definitely surprise you, if you think its just a cheap quality rip off. I decided to do an unboxing video for the first time in years, and also tested waters to film with my Canon EOS 500D. So go easy on me guys, i usually don’t do much videos, but definitely wanna get more into it 🙂 I’m gonna test the symbian^3-powered, Nokia C7 thoroughly in the next 3 weeks, which will result in one or more review posts! Until then, enjoy my unboxing Video of the uber-sexy Nokia C7!

Symbian Foundation to be shut down soon ?

According to a report by Register , the Symbian Foundation might be shut down soon. The Symbian Foundation is a non-profit body which “provides ,manages and unifies the Symbian platform for download and development.” In short, the foundation acts as an enabler but does not develop the platform themselves.Since Nokia is the only major manufacturer to still support Symbian, the importance of this separate entity  seems to fade away. Samsung had recently quit the foundation and Sony Ericsson too has shelved it’s plans for a Symbian handset. Continue reading “Symbian Foundation to be shut down soon ?”

10 Reasons The Nokia E5 Is The Best Affordable Social Smartphone

Nowadays, it is easy to get lost in a discussion about raw power, stellar hardware specs, and the high-end smartphone market. But what many websites and analytics forget is that the vast majority of people, worldwide, want a decent mobile that can help them in their everyday life without punching a ginormous hole in their savings account. The Nokia E5 is one of the latest smartphones that falls into the affordable category, while still managing to cram enough features to appeal to the most social nutcase amongst us. Here are 10 reasons the E5 is a perfect social smartphone.

1. QWERTY
Admit it or not, the social butterfly lifestyle comes with a pre-requisite: texting, emailing, connecting, tweeting, IM’ing, posting, commenting,… and a lot of typing is required on almost every level. A decent qwerty like the one found on the E5 is a godsend for such cases, with nice tactile feedback, large keys, and even predictive text on the software side of things.

Nokia E5 Hardware Tour Gallery

We recently got our hands on the Nokia E5, Nokia’s latest Eseries device after the E72. The E5 came alone in an envelope, so we couldn’t really unbox it, but we’ve taken it for a spin to show it to you from all angles.

The E5 bares a lot of resemblance, hardware-wise and specs-wise with the Nokia E72. It’s a candybar qwerty, and anyone who has used an E71 or E72 will find himself at home with the qwerty keyboard. It’s the same texture as both of its predecessors, with the same rounded keys, and a nice feedback to them. On top of it is a 2.4″ screen, 256k colors, with a light sensor and the ear piece.

Larsson’s Water Spirit Theme Makes Your Symbian Phone Glow

I love installing new themes on my phones, as they let me personalize them to my taste as well as change the look of my device much more frequently, instead of actually paying to buy a new device. Fortunately, Nokia & Symbian theme developers are abundant, and there are a lot of really great ones out there, some who offer their themes for free. One such themer is Larsson from S60Art, and he’s good, really good.

His latest theme, Water Spirit, takes his know-how to new levels, thanks to a great blue background that lights up your screen, fully transparent icon and text borders (which is something I’ve been craving for on my N97 Mini), and a set of custom icons. The whole effect is an elegant theme, that makes you fall back in love with your phone, no matter how old or used it is. Here are some screenshots of Water Spirit on my N97 Mini.
