TRAI, the telecom regulator of India last week issued recommendations on ‘Ensuring Adequate Numbering Resources for Fixed Line and Mobile Services’. Some reported that TRAI has recommended 11-digit numbering scheme for mobile services. However, TRAI today clarified that it has not recommended 11-digit numbering scheme for mobile services and the country will continue to follow a 10-digit numbering. TRAI seeks views to regulate OTT apps like WhatsApp, Skype and more

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has determined to sort views on whether to regular communication apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Viber. This comes to light mainly because of economic and security matters. In a paper released Monday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India asked views of the industry to identify which of these apps should be regarded as providing the same services like mobile phone operators. Tech Mahindra, Microsoft to use Blockchain to fight spam calls in India

Tech Mahindra today announced that it is collaborating with Microsoft to create a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)-based solution to build a robust ecosystem in line with the regulations issued by TRAI. TRAI releases 4G and 5G spectrum recommendations, price for next auction

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) just released recommendations on Auction of Spectrum in 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, including 5G spectrum – 3300-3400 MHz and 3400-3600 MHz bands after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)   requested TRAI to provide applicable reserve price, quantum of spectrum to be auctioned and associated conditions for auction of spectrum. TRAI’s new regulations offers users more control to block pesky calls

In a relief to telecom customers in India, TRAI in unsolicited commercial communication rules under which an individual can now revoke permission that they have granted to any commercial entity for a service. A month after the rules are notified, users can set their preferences on when they would like to receive commercial communications as well as preferred modes of communication- call or SMS. This move is to ensure that telemarketing messages are sent only to those who have subscribed to them, and that too by authorized entities. The proposed Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation 2018 will empower billions of subscribers to take control of their voice and text communications. Telecom Commission approves internet telephony, use of mobile services in flights and ships in India

Telecom Commission on Tuesday has approved the proposal to allow internet telephony in the country as well as in-flight mobile services. With this new approval, users can now make calls to mobile phones as well as landlines using the Wi-Fi broadband. The proposals were approved by the commission chaired by telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today released recommendations on ‘In-Flight Connectivity’ paving the way for in-flight internet connectivity. In the recommendations, TRAI said that both IFC and MCA (Mobile communication on airspace) service should be permitted within minimum height restriction of 3000 meters in the Indian airspace. TRAI cuts Interconnection Usage Charges to 6 paise, will scrap charges from 2020

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revised interconnection usage charges (IUC) after over 2 years. It has further reduced mobile to mobile to 6 paise per minute from 14 paise per minute from 2015. This comes after an open-house held by TRAI in July regarding interconnection usage charges (IUC) where Reliance Jio proposed to make IUC zero, while incumbents such as Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India were against it, demanding for IUC to be raised to 30-40 paise per minute. TRAI releases consultation paper on Network testing before commercial launch

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a consultation paper on ‘Network testing before commercial launch of services’, following complaints by telecom operators against Reliance Jio over subscriber enrollment during its test phase prior to rolling out commercial services. “This is to discuss issues involved, possible solutions and framework to bring clarity on the matter,” said TRAI.

TRAI questions Reliance Jio over extended offer for free services, Jio seeks time till Dec. 29

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has questioned Reliance Jio to explain why extension of its free voice and data plan should not be seen as violation of existing regulations requiring promotional offers to be limited to 90 days. Reliance Jio has sought additional time till December 29 to respond to TRAI’s query.

TRAI recommends Rs. 3050 crore penalty on Airtel, Vodafone and Idea for denial of interconnection to Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio had filed several complaints with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against incumbent operators who failed to provide sufficient POIs to Jio. Yesterday TRAI in separate letters to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) secretary, has recommended a total penalty of Rs. 3050 core on Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular in circles where the point of interconnect (PoI) congestion exceeded the permissible limit of 0.5%.
