LG’s G3, the company’s latest flagship device, was announced on May 27th, with a quad HD display and laser autofocus touted as its USPs. The much awaited successor to G2 predictably packs bleeding edge specifications, in a bid to compete against other premium flagship devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8. The device, with a 5.5″ display, still follows its predecessor when it comes to being sleeker than usual with a super thin bezel around an amazingly sharp display. Packed to the brim with most wanted features, with even a removable battery and a slot for micro SD cards, the G3 aims to be do-it-all this time, and has fewer compromises for a large set of people. We obviously couldn’t wait for the Indian launch, so we went ahead and got one from our friends at Clove UK, and as with every device we get, here is a video to show you what the device looks like, fresh out of the box –

Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 3, the latest iteration of its own hybrid efforts under the “Surface Pro” moniker, at an event in New York last month. Panos Panay, the guy heading the Surface group, kept referencing the Macbook Air as the Surface Pro 3’s competitor and got the audience intrigued, including us, watching the live webcast from afar. But we have now got the chance to try one out in person, as the device has started shipping in the US and Canada, with units available even without pre-order. So, what are our first impressions like? ASUS, the Taiwanese manufacturer, has been in the Android race for quite a while now, at times, experimenting with form factors and convergence. Niche markets aside, like any other company, ASUS also caters to the mass market crowd which just wants to pick up a smartphone. Along those lines, the company revealed three devices, with various screen sizes, ranging from 4 to 6 inches in screen sizes, but with identical user experience. These devices under the “Zenfone” range were announced way back in January during CES, but are only starting to appear in the retail market. We bought one off from a Taipei market, and here is our unboxing video to show the device off, to you –

The Nokia Lumia 630 is the first Windows Phone 8.1 device to launch in the market, including in India, where it has been launched in the Dual SIM flavour, another first. Priced at Rs. 11,500 for the MRP, the device seeks to occupy the place between the 525 and its predecessor, Lumia 620, but sports much improved specs on the inside, keeping things a bit similar on the outside. This new device is set to be the first of hopefully many dual SIM Windows Phone devices from Microsoft, which might make things interesting in the Windows Phone market. For the past 4 years, there is an event that most phone geeks look forward to; the announcement of the latest Samsung Galaxy S flagship. Ever since the launch of the original Galaxy S smartphone which was a big success for a flagship device at the time, we have all waited to see what Samsung brings in new every year with the successor to the previous model. Samsung have a history of providing a do it all device with every feature you could imagine packed into a single device. Naturally this year also everyone expected the same.
Each year Samsung manages to sell more and more of it’s flagship device and this year it’s expecting to do the same. However it does have some fierce competition from the likes of HTC and Sony. Only time will tell how it stands against them but let’s take a look at the S5 and how it performs.
Lava’s Iris 504Q, a mid range phone that released last year, came with a great screen, a decent camera and good build quality. Fast forward to now, we have its successor, the Lava Iris 504Q+, which comes with some minor changes in specifications as well as build quality and more importantly, the camera. Priced at 13,990 Rs. the Iris 504Q+ sports a 10 MP Sony sensor and an upgraded in-built storage of 8 GB, which makes it slightly better than its predecessor. Sony had announced the XPERIA Z2 back in February at MWC 2014 in Barcelona, Spain along with Samsung’s Galaxy S5. However due to certain production issues, the phone’s availability has been very scarce. It’s available in Singapore currently and it’s availability has been announced around Europe as well. Other countries worldwide are yet to receive the device so we thought we’ll bring you this unboxing.
The Indian market is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world, purely driven by the barrage of entry level Android smartphones. The market is so big that even Nokia wanted a slice of it, so it is not surprising to see the unending release schedules the companies resort to. One of them is the Indian manufacturer Spice, known for its low and mid range Android smartphones. In that line, we have here the Spice Stellar Mettle Icon for unboxing. This phone, priced at a low Rs. 6,999 in the market is one of the very few phablet sized devices in that price range. From the front, it unmistakeably looks like the HTC One, sans the loudspeakers. Lenovo Vibe Z, the Chinese company’s flagship smartphone, was launched in India for a price of 35,999 a while back. The phone, also know by its codename K910, is the successor to Lenovo’s K900, the flagship from last year. We had reviewed the K900 and found it to be a really good flagship at that point in time, and it’s not surprising that the Vibe Z is modeled off the same. With improvements on the outside in terms of design and build and on the inside in terms of internals, is the Vibe Z Lenovo’s best offering yet? We might have reviewed the Dell Venue 8 Pro way ahead of its Indian reveal, but the tablet trio, that includes two other Android tablets, launched only a while back. Dell’s Venue 7 and 8 were Android tablets with two different screen sizes with largely the same specifications inside. Powered by an Intel processor, these tablets are placed at the mid range segment of the marketplace, which is the most popular segment for Android tablets these days. The all new HTC One hasn’t even launched yet, but the Internet is still abuzz with leaks and videos of this device. It is all set to launch tomorrow at an event in New York but that hasn’t stopped a German blogger from posting an in-depth video preview of the highly anticipated flagship device from the Taiwanese manufacturer. The video, in German, shows off the entire hardware and bits and pieces of the new Sense 6 UI, which gets up to speed with other OEM skins with features like Double tap to wake, gets on screen buttons and a slightly differently styled UI with Android 4.4 KitKat on board. Wireless charging has been spearheaded by the Qi Wireless Power Consortium for quite a while now, and we have seen phone manufacturers implement the standard in many of their high end phones. On the other hand, we have the wireless chargers being manufactured by a large number of companies, including phone manufacturers themselves, slowly building up the momentum. Technically, it isn’t completely wireless right now, as the charging pads need to be connected to the power plug for it to work. But that hasn’t stopped many manufacturers from making all kinds of wireless charging pads. One of them is Ravpower, who makes the Qi-based wireless charging pads. Sony launched the Xperia Z2 at the Mobile World Congress event here in Barcelona, Spain. The Z2 is an evolutionary upgrade over the Z1 and fixes every complaint people had with the Z1, like it has a better display, a way better build with a stunningly thin and premium design and overall a better package for a flagship. This also includes the new software work that Sony has done, because the Z2 is the first Android 4.4 device from the company and it brings a lot of new improvements to the looks as well as features that previously didn’t exist.
