Hands on with the Nokia XL: Lumia 520 killer?

nokia-xl-dual-sim-android-photos-4

In a courageous and cunning move, Nokia launched its new series of Android devices under the X moniker, a ploy to capture the entry level Smartphone segment, which they had initially planned to capture with the Asha platform. Three devices at different price points were launched, with the XL being launched at a higher 109 EUR price point. Sporting hardware design from the Asha phones and software design from Lumia, Nokia wants to create familiarity to Windows Phone in the low end and hopes to catch aspiring buyers and make them move to their hopefully more profitable platform. But the pricing is treacherously close to their low end Lumias, which might just end up cannibalizing the sales of the latter, even when providing a choice with similar hardware. The XL, a 5 inch Android phone with almost the same or better specifications than the Lumia 520, poses a threat, or may be is it opportunity for Nokia and Microsoft?

Lenovo Vibe Z Unboxing

lenovo-vibe-z-unboxing-6

The Lenovo K900 was the Chinese company’s first flagship launch in India. It had really good specifications for a high end phone and launched at a competitive price, only to then get lesser and suddenly turn into a really good value for money device. We had been waiting for its successor for quite a while now, and now it has come in the form of the Lenovo Vibe Z, which aims to fill the gap the K900 has left in the Indian market. The Vibe Z was announced in India just a couple of days back, at an event which we attended. It has been priced at Rs. 35,999, which is very close to what the K900 was launched for. We had taken a good look at the Vibe Z aka K910 at the Consumer electronics show in Vegas, but the phone was announced in China way back in October. So, what is the phone’s Indian retail version going to be like? Here’s out unboxing video –

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Unboxing and First Impressions

sony-xperia-z1-compact-unboxing-10

Sony launched the Xperia Z1 Compact, as the “mini” variant of its flagship device, the Xperia Z1 sometime back. It was the Z1f(launched in Japan) for the world and was almost immediately heralded as the best compact Android device yet. Samsung and other companies like HTC have been playing the “mini” game for a generation or two, in which they would release a device that is identical to the flagship, but saddled by poorer specifications and obvious cost cutting, but Sony has done the inevitable, a smaller flagship, with deservedly flagship level specifications and a worthy competitor to the Apple iPhone, which still remains the only small-ish flagship product in the world. In a world of 6 inch phablets, how does the little one fare? Before we let you know that in our review, here is the customary unboxing video –

After unboxing the Indian retail version of the dual SIM Moto G, we took the normal shell for a spin and also tried out the new Flip Shell. The white flip shell we bought has a really cool texture on its back and even has magnets to close the front cover, which will offer protection. We found it to be of really high quality, so take a look at how it fits on the Moto G in this video –

LG G Flex Review – Setting the Precedent

lg-g-flex-india-unboxing-10

A few years ago, LG was not relevant in the smartphone conversation. The optimus range was uninspiring and the flagships like 2x and 4x were duds, but all changed when the company released the Nexus 4, with Google. Continuing with the successes of Nexus 5 and the G2, LG has firmly cemented its position as one of the top 5 smartphone vendors in the world. But at this point in time, with virtually every evolutionary avenue explored, the question of “What’s next?” had to be addressed in the smartphone market. The G Flex is LG’s answer, as it hopes to set the precedent for the next generation of devices. Well, does it? Lets find out in our review.

Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini A200 Unboxing and First Impressions

micromax-canvas-turbo-mini-unboxing-6

Among many other trends, Samsung also started this “mini” variant trend, of its single flagship device in its portfolio. The idea was to offer a small screened version of the much loved flagship, at a lesser price that everyone can afford. This trend was followed by HTC with their One mini and even Sony, with their Z1 compact, which is possibly the best implementation without compromises till date. In that line of “mini” devices, we now have our own Micromax with their “mini” version of the popular flagship – Canvas Turbo. Appropriately named the Micromax Canvas Turbo mini A200, the phone takes its screen size and the specs a notch down, to compete with devices in a different price segment. Announced some time back for a price of Rs. 14,490, how does the Canvas Turbo look and what does it bring? Lets find out in our unboxing video –

Nokia Lumia 525 Review

Nokia Lumia 525 Review

When the Nokia Lumia 520 was launched at the Mobile World Congress event last year, not many knew that the company just introduced its first best seller in the Lumia series. It went on to become the most popular Windows Phone ever made, for the fantastic value it offered for the money. But there was one longstanding issue that Nokia had to fix, the small amount of RAM that denied a lot of people new games and apps that were trickling down to Windows Phone.

So, in the series of upgrades that Nokia delivered to existing hardware with small changes, aka adding a 5 to the model number and re-releasing it, we now have the Lumia 525 that fixes the one issue that most wanted fixed. Hence the Lumia 525 comes with 1 GB of RAM and a minor look and feel refresh but overall retains everything else about the Lumia 520 because may be Nokia thought “why fix something that isn’t broke?”. So, how does the Lumia 525 match up to the newly re-invigorated competition, and what does the 1 GB of RAM bring? Let’s find out in our in depth review.

xolo-q3000-unboxing-2

The Xolo Q3000 is the first device from the company to incorporate a full HD 1080p screen.
