That day has arrived, as the “Files” app has made its way on to the store. With the new WinRT APIs for 8.1, Microsoft had enabled the file picker and file access for third party apps, and it was only about time that they made a first party app too. This should have been released along with the operating system, but hey, at least we get full file management on Windows Phone now. Grab it from the link below, from the Windows Phone Store –

Spotify, one of the world’s leading streaming music services, has long neglected the Windows Phone platform, even when it already had an archaic version for the yesteryear Windows Phone 7 operating system, but times are a changing. A much needed makeover has finally happened and the update is now available for all Windows Phone 8 users. The update not only includes a visual makeover, but also new features of the service like “Spotify Radio”, a Pandora-like auto-recommendations. LG-Uni8-Windows-Phone

If today’s leak is to be believed, LG might be getting ready to re-enter the Windows Phone device market with it’s new device dubbed the LG Uni8. The first smartphone from LG running Microsoft’s mobile operating system since their effort on WP7, the LG Uni8 seems to be using capacitive buttons. This lines up with the theory that certain hardware requirements were lifted from the chassis spec to allow OEMs to easily port Windows Phone 8.1 to existing hardware. After moving to WinRT APIs for its latest mobile release, Microsoft has finally added the ability to download or upload files on the phone’s browser or through various apps, using the file picker. facebook-app-links-internet-of-apps

Facebook just unveiled “App links”, an open source solution that works across all the major mobile platforms, to solve a longstanding problem. This is perhaps the biggest and boldest move we have seen Facebook take, in mobile. Why? Well, because it aims to fix a problem that has been lingering over mobile, ever since the inception of the app store – interlinking of applications. Remember the time your phone took you to the web browser for seeing a Facebook photo instead of the app, even when the first party app was installed? The company aims to solve this exact problem by directly linking users to apps, or part of them, hence enabling the “Internet of Apps”. Think of it as the web hyperlink, but for apps, so you will tend to start browsing apps rather than websites.
