Xiaomi launched its budget Redmi 5 smartphone in India last week and said that it will be available exclusively from Amazon.in as well as Mi.com and Mi Home Stores starting March 20th. Today the company has announced that over 4 lakh units will be available for tomorrow’s sale compared to 3 lakh units for the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro that were sold out in 3 minutes during the first sale. Xiaomi just launched the Redmi 5 smartphone in India, as expected. It was introduced back in December last year and packs a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display and is powered by Snapdragon 450 with up to 4GB RAM. It runs Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9, has a 12-megapixel rear camera with 1.25μm pixel size sensor and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with selfie flash, similar to the Redmi Note 5. Xiaomi teases new smartphone launch in India on March 14, Redmi 5 expected [Update: Amazon Exclusive]
Update: The Redmi 5 will be exclusively launched on Amazon India, just like its predecessor. New teaser also reveals that the phone will launch at 3PM on March 14th, which will likely be an online event.

Xiaomi just announced the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphone at an event in China as it had promised. The Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 450 and packs a 3300mAh battery, while the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a 5.99-inch FHD+ 18:9 full-screen display, is powered by Snapdragon 625 and packs a 4000mAh battery. Both these run Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus with full-screen display teased in official images
Last week Xiaomi confirmed the announcement of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones at an event in China on December 7th. The invite showed-off the phone’s design, now the company has released set of images of the phones to show the full-screen display.

When everyone is waiting for the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi just sent out invites for the announcement of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones at an event in China on December 7th. The company has also teased the smartphone in several images that confirm its design. New smartphones with model numbers MDT1 and MDE1 have been certified by TENAA today with 18:9 displays, so this will likely be the Redmi 5.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 images, specs surface – Snapdragon 625/630, up to 4GB RAM, 16MP camera
Xiaomi Redmi 5, successor of last year’s Redmi 4 has surfaced in renders that also reveals the specifications and price. Similar to the Redmi 4, the Redmi 5 is also said to come in two different versions with Snapdragon 625 or 630 Mobile Platform. It is expected to come wiht an improved 16-megapixel rear camera, run Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) based MIUI 9, but is said to come with a slightly smaller 3680mAh battery compared to 4000mAh battery.
