Oath Inc today announced that it is shutting down Yahoo Messenger on July 17th and until then you continue to use the service normally. Yahoo Messenger is one of the first instant messaging apps on the market. The company says your Yahoo ID remains intact for other services like Mail and fantasy sports. Verizon plans to rebrand Yahoo and AOL as Oath

Last year in July, Verizon announced it will acquire Yahoo’s operating business for approximately $4.83 billion in cash. Now the company has revealed that post the acquisition, Yahoo’s core assets will be merged with AOL and the newly created content division will be called as Oath. Russian hackers and spies charged for massive Yahoo hacks

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged two Russian intelligence officers and two state-sponsored hackers for the massive 2014 Yahoo hacks. The four men face 47 criminal charges including computer fraud and economic espionage. This marks the first time the U.S. government has issued criminal charges against Russian officials for cyber attacks.

Yahoo has announced that its CEO Marissa Mayer will resign from the board once it completes the deal with Verizon. In addition, Yahoo will also be renamed as Altaba Inc, the company said in a regulatory filing. Yahoo has a deal to sell its core internet business, which includes its digital advertising, email and media assets, to Verizon for $4.83 billion.
