Online giant Amazon spells trouble for UK Royal Mail growth
Royal Mail on Wednesday warned that online giant Amazon’s own delivery service and increased competition from rival couriers has hampered progress and impacted revenues. The former state-owned British company said that Amazon’s plans to launch their own delivery service would cut the growth in the British parcel market for it and its rivals from 4-5 percent down to 1-2 percent. Amazon introduces Echo, a virtual assistant in the form of a home speaker
When you think Amazon, you think e-commerce, but closer to the present, you’d also think about the Fire phone, its failure to make money and so forth, but you never would have imagined that the same company, at this time, would come up with a virtual assistant in the form of a speaker. It is surprising and yes, that’s Amazon’s new product, called Echo, a cloud-powered home speaker that you can talk to. The Echo, always listening and connected to Amazon’s cloud aka AWS, accepts input primarily in voice and can perform many of the functions of already existing virtual assistants like Siri and Cortana. It’s also a bold play for the living room, where information is less personal. The device, priced at $199 for regular people and $99 for Amazon’s Prime customers, is set to launch in the coming weeks, and is currently invite-only.

Amazon introduces Fire TV Stick, a $39 streaming stick
Months after introducing the Fire TV, an Android-based streaming box, Amazon has introduced Fire TV Stick, the company’s first streaming stick and the competitor of Google Chromecast stick. It connects to the HDMI port on HDTV and uses USB port for Power, similar to Chromecast so that you can stream content such as movies, TV shows, music, photos, apps, and games from Amazon content library, mirror your phone or a tablet and automatically upload photos or videos to Amazon Cloud Drive. Amazon announces new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 with Snapdragon 805
Amazon has updated its Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 tablet. It has a that same 8.9-inch ( 2560 x 1600 pixels) display, but now it is powered by a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 processor, instead of Snapdragon 800 on last year’s Fire HDX 8.9. It runs on the new Fire OS 4.0 Sangria based on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with 5P f/2.2 lens and a front-facing 720p HD camera.
