Intel shows off Merrifield prototype at Computex, First phones at MWC 2014

Intel revealed its first prototype smartphone built on its next Atom smartphone chip codenamed Merrifield. The processor chip is slated to provide a 50 percent performance boost over current chips and will have much improved battery life as well.

Shown off by Tom Kilroy during the keynote session at Computex, the chip will ship to carriers and device makers early next year. Intel Silvermont architecture targets high performance with low power consumption

Intel today announced the next step of its mobile strategy. The Silvermont architecture is a complete departure from the Clover Trail and Clover Trail+ chips that Intel has been pushing since 2008. With a switch to yearly update cycles, the company hopes to be much more competitive in the extremely hot mobile chipset segment.

Asus FonePad Unboxing

The FonePad is one of the first Intel Atom Z2420  powered Android tablets to hit the market. Asus announced the FonePad at MWC 2013 this year along with the Padfone Infinity. The “FonePad” as the name suggests is a 3G tablet and phone packed into a 7 inch tablet form factor at an affordable price point. Yes there are a couple of microphones and an earpiece on the device and you can actually put the FonePad to the ear and make a phone call although we don’t know if it will look cool. The tablet comes in 2 colours – Champagne Gold and Titanium Gray. Here is a video where we unbox the Champagne Gold version of the Asus FonePad.
