Samsung Mobile announced Samsung Widescreen mobile phone in Australia which promises to herald a revolution in mobile phone technology.

Samsung Widescreen is a dual flip action phone. While the phone is enabled with a traditional flip action, the second flip opens the phone sideways revealing a mini-laptop with a QWERTY keyboard. This dual design is perfect for watching TV or surfing the net. It has dual speakers, ensuring stereophonic outputThe mobile phone is enabled with Telstra’s Next G network, and Mobile FOXTEL, some of Australia’s most popular networks. The mobile phone will not only allow consumers to surf 33 channels, it also has the ability to record the favourite programs from the FOXTEL iQ set-top box.

Google Open Handset Alliance and Android is official

Google has just announced the Open Handset Alliance. It has partnered with over 30 Companies worldwide for the new platform called Android including Motorola, Qualcomm, HTC and T-Mobile. So the gPhone story has just started.

We had covered about Android 2 days back.This is actually interesting news for mobile developers and mobile users.

Mobile Developers can get to download the SDK soon at the Open Alliance Developer page

Phones running the Android platform are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2008.

This move is seen as a sign of Google’s intentions to enter the Booming mobile market world wide.

You must have used / seen Google mobile maps, Gmail and Mobile docs . The new phones will be linux powered probably and will run all the latest Google Mobile Apps. 

BharatMatrimony ties up with Nokia for Catalogs platform

Leading Indian matrimony site BharatMatrimony.com has tied up with Nokia to offer its match making services of the Nokia Catalogs Platform.

The move will enable the Matrimony portal to cater to Nokia phone users in India.

The partnership is aimed at bringing Match Making to the mobile platform.

Nokia N81 and N81 8GB start shipping

According to a Nokia press Release , The awaited Nokia N81 and N81 8GB edition have started shipping.

The estimated retail price of the Nokia N81 is 360 EUR (Rs.22000 approx. ) before subsidies or taxes. The Nokia N81 8GB is expected to retail for 430 EUR (Rs.25000 approx.) before subsidies or taxes.

Whats Hot about this launch is that

A preview of the N-Gage games service is also available in the devices, including playable demos of EA SPORTS(TM) FIFA 07, Asphalt 3: Street Rules and Space Impact Light. After the launch of N-Gage later this year, the full N-Gage application will be available for download. Players can then try all N-Gage games for free and buy only the ones they want. 

Mobile gaming is getting really interesting and upgraded N-Gage looks promising.

HTC Touch Dual

The HTC Touch lacked a touchable keyboard. Touch screen phones are a nightmare to use for QWERTY and T9 users .

at least I found it irritating and slow to type. HTC seems to have addressed this issue with the HTC Touch Dual

As the name indicates the HTC Touch works both on GSM and 3G / UMTS networks.

It comes with Dual Input and a Dual Camera. The Touch Screen with the TouchFLO technology is still present but in addition to that

there is a slider keypad which allows you to enter text directly instead of using the stylus.

HTC has sold 800,000 Touch phones

Htc-touch-Taiwanese phone maker HTC is claiming to have sold 800,000 Touch phones worldwide.

Apple recently crossed the 1 million or 10,00,000 mark in iPhone sales. The HTC Touch has not yet hit America and is available only in Europe and Asia.

TouchScreen phones are a craze now after the iPhone wave. Actually the HTC touch came to the market even before June -29th 2007 – the iPhone launch.

Nokia is partnering with leading media brands including CNN , Sony Pictures and IBN ( CNN-IBN) for bringing content to Nokia Video Center.

Nokia Video Center aims to bring mobile video to N-Series and other multimedia handsets from Nokia.

The Nokia Video Center is available on the Nokia N95 and Nokia N95 8GB.

Youtube and Reuters are already in a content sharing agreement with the Finish phone Maker

Nokia to acquire NAVTEQ

After we reported the Nokia is in talks to acquire NAVTEQ, Nokia issued a Press Release to confirm the deal.

  • Nokia’s Location Based Services offerings to expand
  • Expect to see lots of GPS supported handsets from Nokia
  • NAVTEQ’s Map data business will still remain functional, but under Nokia

Nokia will pay a price of approximately $8.1 billion for the take over.

Nokia in talks to acquire Navteq

Nokia is in serious talks to acquire Navteq who is a leading navigation software maker.

NavteqInterestingly Navteq is also a data provider for Google Maps.

The company has a $7.61 billion market capitalization – their main business is software for in-vehicle navigation systems.

If Nokia bags Navteq , it will be a shot in the arm for Nokia’s GPS Device offerings and the mobile-services arena.

Nokia and Navteq already have a business relationship, where Navteq provides information for Nokia’s mobile phones.

Vodafone India  (Hutch) has introduced the Blackberry 8310 and Blackberry 8820 priced at Rs.24,990 and Rs.31,990

Vodafone acquired Hong Kong-based Hutchison International’s Indian telecom arm Hutch’s stake for $11.1 billion in May this year. The company earlier said it would be investing $2 billion in consolidating and expanding its business in the country.

Vodafone Essar, India’s second largest mobile service operator after Airtel, has a subscriber base of 34.11 million and a market share of 20.11 percent as on Aug 31, 2007, according to data released by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
