Google introduced three Android One smartphones – Spice Dream UNO Mi-498, Micromax Canvas A1 and Karbonn Sparkle V earlier this month. All these have the same specifications and vary only in design. Since all these have a the same 5-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with single LED flash, f/2.8 aperture, 1080p video recording and a 2-megapixel fixed-focus front-facing camera with 720p video recording, we decided to post the camera samples of these smartphones together. Spice launched the Dream UNO Mi-498, the company’s first Android One smartphone yesterday. We already brought you the unboxing and the first impressions of the smartphone, here we have the benchmarks of the smartphone. It is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor with ARM Cortex A7 cores and Mali 400 GPU, has a 4.5-inch FWVGA display and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Spice Dream UNO Android One Phone Unboxing and First Impressions

It’s Android One day today and we’ve got one of the first smartphones from the program with us, the Spice Dream UNO. Spice was one of the three manufacturers chosen for the program announced at the Google’s IO conference back in June. The Indian manufacturer, along with fellow competitors Micromax and Karbonn, has launched its first Android One device today, with a lot of support from Google. The Dream UNO, which is based off a strict chassis mandated by Google has its chipset powered by MediaTek and has almost the same specifications as the other phones that launched today. Priced at Rs. 6,299, the Dream Uno fulfills the idea of Android One, an affordable high quality device with stock Android that’s set to receive updates as fast as Google delivers them, so how is the device? Spice has launched the Dream UNO Mi-498, the company’s first Android One smartphone. It surfaced on Flipkart recently and packs a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with 35GB of Google Drive storage, Spice Cloud app with 10GB of storage and pre-loaded apps. Spice Retail Limited has announced that it has partnered with online retailer Flipkart to sell its flagship smartphones exclusively on the e-commerce portal. We will have a dedicated store on Flipkart for Spice products, said the company. Spice Group has an online shopping portal called Saholic, where is sells their smartphones, apart from selling produces from other manufacturers. The market for wearables is clearly divided. Smartwatches have lined the upper end of the spectrum with Samsung’s Gear line of devices and now Android Wear based watches being the most prominent ones. The other end of the spectrum includes the standalone fitness focussed wearables. These wearables are then focussed on tracking your fitness related activities and include basic time keeping functionality. Due to the price, functionality divide between the categories, neither of them really have the potential to democratize wearables. And so step in indigenous manufacturers that try to bridge that gap by introducing a device that cherry picks features from higher end smartwatches and makes them available at a very accessible price point.
