MediaTek MT6731 SoC to power 4G smart feature phones running KaiOS
KaiOS, popular mobile operating system for smart feature phones that powers the JioPhone and the Nokia 8110 4G has announced their collaboration to integrate KaiOS with a series of MediaTek chipsets to power 3G and 4G devices. As part of this cooperation, the KaiOS mobile operating system will now run on the 3G MT6572 platform, and the latest MT6731, with support for dual-4G SIM cards. Google invests $22 million in KaiOS that powers JioPhone and Nokia 8110 4G
US-based Kai Technologies, mobile operating system provider for feature phone like the popular JioPhone and Nokia 8110 4G, today announced that it has received $22 million Series A investment from Google. In addition to the investment, Google and KaiOS have also agreed to work together to make the Google Assistant, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Search available to all KaiOS users.

WhatsApp reportedly working on bringing support for JioPhone powered by KaiOS
WhatsApp is said to be working on bringing its chat application to KaiOS that is currently powering the JioPhone in India and the upcoming Nokia 8110 4G that was introduced recently. KaiOS 2.5 will run on feature phones with Qualcomm, Spreadtrum chipsets with just 256MB RAM
At the MWC event, KaiOS Technologies announced that it is partnering with Unigroup Spreadtrum & RDA, Airfind, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Doro, HMD Global, Micromax, NXP, Qualcomm to integrate with newest chipsets and offer advanced functionality on lite phones. Furthermore, KaiOS is already supported on high-performance LTE chipset platform Spreadtrum’s SC9820A which is now running on JioPhone.
