Samsung shipped over 6.7 million 5G smartphones globally in 2019, Galaxy Tab S6 5G coming in Q1 2020

Samsung has announced that it has shipped over it shipped more than 6.7 million Galaxy 5G smartphones globally that includes Galaxy S10 5G, Note10 5G, Note10+ 5G, Galaxy A90 5G and Galaxy Fold 5G. It added that as of November 2019, Samsung accounted for 53.9% of the global 5G smartphone market globally. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 5G, which will be available in Korea in the first quarter of 2020, will be the world’s first 5G tablet. India 5G trials to begin in January-March 2020: Report

India is going to be one step closer to having full 5G rollouts nationwide the government is looking into 5G trials by the end of this fiscal year, according to a report. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has also confirmed that the auction for 5G airwaves will be held in April -March.

Indian Government could hold 4G and 5G spectrum auction in Q2 2020

Government is getting ready to conduct a new spectrum auction in April/June next year for 4G and 5G bands, according to the latest ET report. With new tariffs announced from the three major operators and 2-year temporary prohibition on spectrum payments, the government is confident that the operators will participate in the sale.

MediaTek 5G chip will be announced on November 26, will power 5G phones in 2020

At the MediaTek Summit in San Diego, the company teased its upcoming 5G chip with the model number MT6885Z. It also confirmed that it will introduce the chip on November 26th. At the Computex 2019 in Taiwan back in May the company’s already said that the 5G SoC will be built using 7nm FinFET process technology and MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem built in, and we can expect the full specifications of this chip at the event.

MediaTek 5G 7nm SoC with built-in Helio M70 5G multi-mode modem announced

MediaTek at the Computex 2019 in Taiwan today announced the company’s first 5G SoC built using 7nm FinFET process technology and MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem built in. It uses the latest Cortex-A77 CPU, Mali-G77 GPU and MediaTek’s most advanced AI processing unit (APU).  The multi-mode 5G chipset is for 5G stand alone and non-stand alone (SA/NSA) sub-6GHz networks. It supports connectivity from 2G to 4G to bridge existing network access while 5G networks roll out globally.

Lenovo Project Limitless world’s first 5G PC powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform announced

Lenovo at the Computex 2019 in Taipei announced Project Limitless, which calls as the world’s first 5G  always-on, always-connected PC, powered by new Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem. Lenovo did not share any specification of the device yet, but the prototype shows a convertible design, large screen and a fingerprint sensor.

EE to launch 5G services in six cities in UK on May 30

EE; UK’s mobile network that is part of BT Group today announced that it will launch 5G in Uk starting in six cities: London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and Belfast from May 30th. It will also introduce new 5G plans, a range of six new 5G smartphones and devices. OnePlus 7 Pro 5G announced, coming to EE in the UK and Elisa in Finland

Along with the OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus also introduced the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G at its event, after the company showcased  a 5G prototype smartphone at the MWC in February. As the company had already announced last year, it will be available exclusively with EE in the UK and Elisa in Finland. The company has not announced any other partnerships and did not reveal the price or the availability of the phone in these markets.

Mediatek’s 5G chip is coming to India by end of 2019

At the China Mobile Global Partner Conference in Guangzhou, MediaTek introduced the first 5G baseband chipset, Helio M70. Today, Mediatek has confirmed that the 5G chipset will be arriving in India by this year-end with the shipping happening next year.
