Fast forward 2011 , we have the world’s largest handset maker going with a microSIM slot in it’s latest smartphones including the Nokia ,N9, Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. Motorola used a similar SIM card slot in the DROID RAZR. Now a German company Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has come up with the World’s first Nano SIM card which is significantly smaller than even a microSIM card.The main reason handset makers go with a microSIM card is to reduce the thickness of the device. World’s First GSM Call was made 20 years ago
I graduated in Electronics and Communications and Finnish names are pretty common in any work in the wireless communication space. Nokia’s contribution to this space is pretty huge and the latest proof is Apple agreeing to become a licensee of Nokia. Now if you are a fan of technology , the first GSM call on a commercial network was made 20 years ago between Finland’s Prime Minister Harri Holkeri and Kaarina Suonio,vice mayor of the Finnish city of Tampere . The network was built by Telenokia and Siemens now known as Nokia Siemens Networks – for the Finnish operator Radiolinja, now known as Elisa.

We decided to compare the 3G Tariffs from Airtel , BSNL and Tata Docomo in the Bangalore, Karnataka Circle. This circle was chosen because it is the only circle maximum Operators are offering 3G as of today.
Reliance was not included because it has launched 3G in this circle.This comparison only takes into account the Prepaid tariffs and our main focus is on the Data Usage charges. Lufthansa FlyNet to offer In-flight WiFi along with GSM/GPRS connectivity
Lufthansa will be the first airline to offer in-flight internet access on intercontinental routes.The service will be offered under the banner FlyNet in partnership with Panasonic Avionics. FlyNet will be initially available only on select North Atlantic routes but they plan to offer it on the airline’s entire intercontinental network by end of 2011. Sprint considering on LTE and T-Mobile merger
Sprint CEO Dan Hesse was talking to the Financial Times, while giving the interview, Dan Hesse said that “We have the spectrum resources where we could add LTE if we choose to do that, on top of the WiMAX network. The beauty of having a lot of spectrum is we have a lot of flexibility.” That means that Sprint is also considering on LTE, not only on 4G (WiMax). There is no doubt in it that LTE is more faster than WiMax. Sprint WiMax partner, Clearwire also said that LTE is a possibility in the future. Reliance Mobile launches GSM services in Punjab
Reliance Communications Monday announced the launch of its GSM mobile services in Punjab, becoming the first telecom operator in the circle to have both GSM and CDMA services for mobile users.
“The service will cover 460 towns, 11,741 villages and a number of national, state and other highways, tourist and religious places throughout the state,” Reliance regional hub head Arvind Kumar told reporters at the launch.
The Punjab circle GSM market is dominated by telecom majors Airtel and Idea (till recently Spice) and the entry of Reliance is likely to make the competition even more keen.
Offering a Reliance GSM prepaid SIM card for a one-time charge of just Rs.25, Reliance officials said the inaugural offer to subscribers would provide 100 percent savings to the sub-Rs.300 users. Continue reading “Reliance Mobile launches GSM services in Punjab”

India the Preferred Mobile Destination
